Jonathan Donehoo: 1954-2019

The School of Design was shocked and heartbroken to learn that Jonathan Donehoo, Professor Emeritus and former Director of the School of Art, passed away suddenly on 28 February 2019.

Jonathan Edward Donehoo was born on January 22, 1954 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up in San José, Costa Rica, Cartagena and Bogotá, Colombia, and Atlanta, Georgia, as the eldest son of Baptist missionaries. Jonathan did his undergraduate work at the University of Georgia and received a Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design degree from Louisiana Tech. He began his teaching career at East Tennessee State University, in Johnson City, Tennessee and returned to Louisiana Tech to head the Graphic Design Department in 1985. While at Tech he was appointed co-director of the widely known study abroad program, Tech Rome. He was instrumental in establishing the School of Art’s study abroad program in Paris in 2004. He was appointed Director of the School of Art in 2007 and retired as Professor Emeritus in 2014.
Jonathan’s sudden departure leaves a hole in the lives of many friends, colleagues, and family members who were blessed by his company, generosity, sage advice, and special sense of humor. He will be missed.
A service was held to remember Jonathan Donehoo at 11:00am on Friday, March 15th at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, in Ruston, Louisiana
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a gift to the Jonathan Donehoo Memorial Fund at the Louisiana Tech University Foundation. This fund will help to support students of the School of Design participate in the study abroad program that was so dear to Jonathan.
