ComDes Students Win Awards
Louisiana Tech communication design majors have participated in the 2012 American Advertising Competition, sponsored by the American Advertising Federation of Shreveport-Bossier (AAFSB). Five undergraduates and one graduate student majoring in communication design have won a total of eight awards with their entries, and most of them featured designs created as class projects at Tech. The awards were presented to the students on March 3 at an awards banquet in Shreveport attended by marketing, advertising, graphic design, broadcast media, and public relations professionals from the Shreveport area. The competition, better known as the ADDY Awards, is a showcase of professionals’ work from the Shreveport marketing area, and it also attracts student entries from Tech, LSU-Shreveport, and Centenary College. A distinguished, three-judge panel of advertising industry leaders juried both professional and student print and broadcast advertising/communication design entries.
Gold ADDYs represent the highest achievement in excellence. Four student Gold Awards were presented to Anna Broussard, Whitney Lanie, Amy Olita, and Ann Songhee. Broussard entered an advertising campaign for Neutrogena soap and Lanie submitted a poster for Lava soap. Broussard’s ad campaign also won the award for Best of Student entries. Olita earned a gold award with her direct marketing mailer for LA Tech School of Art, and Songhee was awarded gold for her Lava soap advertising campaign. Gold-winning entries are all submitted to the AAF District 10 ADDY competition, where they will vie with student and professional entries from Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
A silver award-winning student entry was submitted by Anna Broussard who won with her logo design for a hardware store. Three student Bronze ADDYs were given to two students. Graduate student Jake Dugard submitted an identity campaign for a coffee shop, including logo design, packaging, signage, labeling, and advertising. Elizabeth Gebel won two bronze awards with a marketing collateral campaign for the American Rose Society and an advertising campaign for Lava soap.
