FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT KIND OF STUFF WILL I DO? See our schedule page for more specific info, but mornings will generally include workshops, faculty presentations, field trips, etc., and afternoons (and some evenings) will be spent on design projects in the Hale Hall and FJ Taylor Visual Arts Center studios.

WHEN DO WE EAT? 3 meals a day will be available at the Louisiana Tech Student center via a declining balance card that is included in the cost of your camp tuition. You’ll eat just like the college students! Meal breaks are built into the daily schedule, but students are encouraged to bring spending money and/or snacks of their own for late nights or between meals.

WILL I MAKE FRIENDS? Yes. The challenging, creative environment of design education creates lasting bonds among those who experience it together. And beyond that, campers should plan on using the buddy system. While the Louisiana Tech campus is a safe environment, students should not wander off on their own and should always be sure counselors and instructors know where to find you.

CAN I CALL HOME? Yes. Cell phones are welcome, but remember your phone is YOUR responsibility and no one else’s. Campers should keep phones on silent during the day and not allow them to become a distraction from camp activities.

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO DURING CAMP? Eat & Sleep. Similar to design education, Design Camp is an immersive, challenging and rewarding experience. Campers will be under the supervision of counselors and faculty for the duration of the week. No other activities should be scheduled during this time.

WHAT IF I MESS UP? Design Camp is a learning and growth experience: no grades are given. We aim to give students a taste of design education and help each person to develop their awareness and interest in the fields of architecture, interior design, graphic design and studio art, regardless of their starting point. Anyone that really messes up (repeatedly causes problems, does not safety rules, etc.) will be sent home early, and will not be reimbursed for their tuition.

WHO’S IN CHARGE? Design Camp has been organized by School of Design Faculty members Brad Deal and Liane Hancock. Camp counselors will be selected from the School of Design student body. You can contact them with questions at archcamp@latech.edu
