Bustamante’s Painting to become Mural
Finding Home, a painting by Associate Professor Nick Bustamante explores the beauty of Louisiana, specifically referencing images of Black Bayou and celebrates the rich culture of the region. Soon, this painting will be transformed into a large-scale presence in downtown Monroe.
As a fervent supporter of the Arts, Monroe property owner Mr. Michael Echols has donated the side of his building for a mural based on Bustamante’s painting. With Mr. Echols’ generous donation and funding from the Downtown Monroe Renaissance Board, this 18′ tall by 68′ long mural contribute to the revitalization of downtown Monroe and to also enhance the presence of the regional arts community.
Nick will serve the creative director and lead painter on the Mural and will be assisted by a group of Art students from Louisiana Tech University. The project will begin in March and will be completed in May 2014.
In celebration of the new project, Nick’s original painting will be on display at Monroe’s DOWNSTAIRS Gallery on Thursday, 6 February from 5-9pm (137 North 2nd Street, Monroe). Limited edition prints will also be available.
